Public broadcasters across the country are reporting great success with their use of the Facing the Mortgage Crisis broadcast, online materials, and outreach. Local stations are providing communities with the resources they need to help them keep their homes. In the process, stations are creating new partnerships and solidifying their roles as community conveners.
Facing the Mortgage Crisis is one part of public media's efforts to help communities deal with our current economic realities. Other projects in this effort include the "Engaging Communities in the Economy" and Sesame Street: Families Stand Together initiatives.
The National Center for Media Engagement recently hosted a webinar, "Facing the Mortgage Crisis - Stories of Impact and Station Sustainability", featuring some of the stations and their stories. WYSO in Yellow Springs, OH reported that a recent 9 p.m. Thursday broadcast was the most-watched in its timeslot.
