APPLICATION GUIDELINES

PURPOSE
Public media stations are facing unprecedented challenges to their support base in local and regional communities. In many areas across the country, critical funding for public media from state and municipal sources is being severely reduced or eliminated altogether. For many stations, it has become a top priority to ensure that regional community leaders understand the vital role public media plays in keeping their communities informed, educated and healthy. CPB has created the My Source Impact Communication Grants program to leverage public television and radio stations capacity to communicate their impact on a local, regional, and statewide level to key decision makers, community leader and stakeholders.

GRANT DETAILS, ELIGIBILITY, AND REQUIREMENTS

  • 40 Grants are available in the amount of $25,000 per licensee. Joint licensees count as single grantee. A portion of the grant must be allocated to communications on external outlets.
  • All CSG-eligible radio, television and joint licensees may apply. Collaborative proposals from multiple licensees will also be considered.
  • The grant program will be administered by CPB and the National Center for Media Engagement (NCME).
  • All grantees will be required to develop testimonials based on the My Source platform and will be expected to follow My Source creative guidelines, including appropriate use of the My Source logo. See www.MySourcefor.org/forpublicbroadcasters.cfm.
  • Grantees will be required to create video and/or audio testimonial(s) suitable broadcast or online distribution and a complimentary print testimonial suitable for publication. Final video, audio, and print format requirements are available below.

COMPETITIVE CRITERIA
These grants are intended to communicate the impact of station initiatives in journalism, education, cultural enrichment, and community engagement. The testimonial messages should underscore the use of innovative approaches to addressing community needs. Criteria will include:

  1. The scope (breadth, depth, duration) of station’s communications plan to reach key stakeholders.
  2. Innovative strategies and tactics utilized in communications plan.
  3. The impact (qualitative and quantitative) of the initiatives featured in the communications plan.
  4. The station’s demonstrated effort in effectively communicating their impact on communities, groups and individuals.

The online grant application is available at www.cpb.org and www.mediaengage.org. An introductory webinar to explain grant requirements and desired outcomes was held on March 10, 2010 at 3PM EST. See the links at the top of this page to view a recording of this conference.
