My Source

On-Air

A station's airwaves are its greatest asset. Using your airwaves is a smart and effective way to communicate your My Source message.

WPLN (Nashville, TN)

WPLN recruited 12 My Source ambassadors from the station’s online solicitation campaign. The station enlisted a dedicated staff person to handle scheduling and logistics and an experienced producer to record an on-air spot by each ambassador. The station also conducted an Internet search on each person they selected before reaching out to him or her to record a testimonial. Through the searches, WPLN was able to find all the background information they needed to determine good candidates for My Source ambassadors. Their efforts paid off with testimonials from a diverse group of individuals.

Click here to listen to a pastor who, despite disagreement with some of the opinions broadcast, still believes in supporting public broadcasting and donates to WPLN; a man from Ghana who appreciates WPLN for its international perspective; and a woman who uses the money she would have spent on internet and cable to support WPLN.

WHUT (Washington, D.C.)

WHUT-TV reached out to viewers who had established a relationship with the station through e-mails, visits to the station or involvement with Howard University, the station’s license-holder.

In less than a month, WHUT captured the stories of five individuals and produced 30-second spots that began airing at the end of February. From the joy of wonder to the pursuit of great ideas, WHUT’s testimonials illustrate the value of public broadcasting in American life.

WMFE (Orlando, FL)

Knowing that the members of WMFE’s Board of Trustees and Community Advisory Board are passionate about the station and its local programs, WMFE invited them to become the station’s My Source ambassadors.

In February 2008, WMFE began rotating two on-air My Source testimonials on WMFE-TV twice a day. Beginning on Valentine’s Day, three My Source spots aired in rotation on 90.7 WMFE-FM.

WPT (Madison, WI)

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) has been using My Source to promote its newly redesigned Web site, www.wisconsinvote.org. WPT produced four election-themed spots and began airing them on January 21, 2008, with increasing frequency prior to the February 19 presidential primaries. The station will give less airtime to the spots following the spring election of Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, but more during the summer when interest in the national political conventions increases.

WUNC (Raleigh/Durham, NC)

WUNC is experimenting with a new twist on My Source. Program hosts Dick Gordon and Frank Stasio recorded testimonials directed at listeners as a way to reinforce how listeners contribute to the station: "You are my source for ideas." Listeners provide valuable feedback on their programming, and this new twist is a way of showing how the station relies on listeners for their ideas. It’s a way to say “Thank You” to the program’s listeners and further engage their audience. Listen to these My Source testimonials by Dick Gordon, host of The Story, and Frank Stasio, host of The State of Things.
