As recently as 2007, Humboldt County led California in methamphetamine-related deaths. In response to this crisis, KEET-TV spearheaded a coalition of media, government, education and nonprofit organizations, and produced television and radio documentaries, public service announcements, street theater and a fact book on resources and drug treatment. The station has given away hundreds of DVD copies of their Life After Meth documentary to families, schools, libraries and organizations, and local university nursing and social work students view the program in their classes. Life After Meth received a Silver Telly Award and partner station KHUM's radio documentary Picking Up won an Edward R. Murrow Award.
