With the My Source Community Impact Awards for engagement, TPT is being recognized for their project, Addressing Community Needs through the Minnesota Channel.
In 2003, TPT founded the The Minnesota Channel to produce digital content in partnership with other non-profit organizations, with a strong emphasis on untold stories and underserved audiences. To date, TPT has partnered with more than 175 organizations to create more than 480 broadcast programs. Three recent projects showcase TPT’s editorial vision and commitment to community:
Iraq Vets Return – Working with the Minnesota National Guard, TPT produced a set of five broadcasts focused on helping troops, families, medical providers and communities better understand and adapt to the needs of Iraq veterans.
SIDA sin Miedo– To address an emerging HIV epidemic among Hispanics in Minnesota, TPT worked with Hennepin County’s Ryan White Program and with health care providers from West Side Community Health Service's La Clinica to create multiplatform initiative SIDA sin Miedo or “Aids without Fear.”
Close the Gap – After a Brookings Institute report revealed that Minnesota had dramatic and growing disparities based on race, class and place, TPT partnered with the Itasca Project to share these findings – and to change the state’s prospects – with a five-part documentary series, community screenings, a curriculum for teens, an extensive website and workforce diversity discussion guide.
