Students in the capital region attend some of the finest and most challenged public schools in the nation. In 2008, WAMU’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show tackled school performance and accountability in a series of interviews and call-ins with school superintendents, including D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee. Nnamdi also produced specials on parent activism in public schools, the long history of school desegregation in Virginia, and the pros and cons of extended school hours. WAMU welcomed a diverse group of stakeholders, including public school principals, charter school principals, and members of parent coalitions into these conversations.
WAMU celebrities recorded on-air spots to recruit passionate listeners to serve as My Source ambassadors. Read more about this strategy in our guidelines for ambassador recruitment.
WAMU then recorded on-air spots by listeners and used their stories to create My Source bus-tail advertising. Click here to read more about advertising by WAMU.
