WBUR-FM (Boston, MA)
With the My Source Community Impact Awards for engagement, WBUR is being recognized for their project, CommonHealth- WBUR's Coverage of the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Law.
Prompted by an historic 2006 law mandating health insurance coverage for every resident in Massachusetts, WBUR responded with comprehensive reporting, blogs and moderated conversations with the community as the bill was debated, drafted and enacted. The station’s coverage of this state-wide issue included four call-in programs, on-air specials and a dedicated website. The blog has been used by a variety of groups to present information about the impact of the new legislation on the state’s citizens. WBUR’s coverage of the health insurance law won the Associated Press Public Affairs award for New England.
