While much of Orlando’s media was focused on the national elections, WMFE ensured that residents received in-depth on-air and online coverage of key local elections. The station developed a candidate forum, Ballot 2008, showcasing candidates for Congress, the Florida House and Senate, County Commissioner and local school boards, and made the program available on-air, on-demand and on-line. The Orange County Commission was so impressed with WMFE’s work that they reinstated $36,000 that had been cut earlier in the year. Other media in the market regularly used Ballot 2008 for information and candidate quotes.
WMFE launched My Source with a full-page ad in the February 2008 issue of its members-only magazine. WMFE is using My Source to promote its local programs in on-air television and radio spots, membership e-newsletters, print ads in local media and bus signage.
