Press Release – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today congratulated Iowa Public Television (IPTV) on receiving a My Source Education Innovation Award. These awards were created by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to recognize stations that make a positive educational impact in their communities. Harkin chairs the Appropriations Subcommittee that funds public broadcasting.
"Iowa Public Television has always been committed to serving the people of Iowa, especially children, and this award is richly deserved," said Harkin. "Public television and radio stations have set a standard for quality programs that parents and educators can trust. IPTV should be applauded for their creativity and dedication to education in Iowa."
IPTV recently discovered in a survey that 75 percent of Iowa middle-school students showed interest in learning more about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). IPTV then partnered with science career organizations from around the country to produce and deliver a series of 113 STEM-related interactive videoconferences to classrooms throughout Iowa. 655 Iowa schools were reached, with a total of 9,259 teachers and students participating.

Press Release – Today, Congressman Leonard Boswell announced that Iowa Public Television (IPTV) has been awarded a My Source Education Innovation Award by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for its dedication to meeting the educational needs of its local community.
IPTV received the award for its work following a survey that the station conducted that found 75 percent of Iowa middle school students identified Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) as an area they wanted to know more about. In response, IPTV partnered with many organizations to create a series of 113 STEM-related interactive videoconferences to classrooms throughout the state.
I would like to congratulate IPTV for having such a great educational impact on their local community in an area that is vital to our national success, Boswell said. As a member of the Congressional STEM Education Caucus, I am committed to increasing opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math for our youth and building a STEM workforce that can compete globally.
