As a statewide network with a commitment to stimulate civic engagement amongst its diverse regions and populations, OETA was well positioned during election of 2008 to find and aggregate voter concerns. In the months leading up to the election, OETA produced and aired 44 short Voter Voices segments, featuring individual Oklahomans from around the state, speaking about issues important to them and what it would take for candidates to earn their votes. Voter Voices segments were presented on a project website, where others could upload their thoughts, and link to key voter resources. The station also hosted workshops for first time voters, and provided in-depth election coverage on its Oklahoma News Report, the state’s only statewide newscast.
