With the My Source Community Impact Awards for engagement, WLJT is being recognized for their project, A Lion in the House Community Forum and Outreach Campaign. 

Although cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for youngsters ages one to 19, most communities have little information about its incidence and treatment. Located in rural western Tennessee, WJLT realized that there might also be a lack of resources for families themselves struggling with childhood cancer, and the complex medical issues, emotional problems and financial hardships that accompany it. Using the PBS documentary A Lion in the House as a starting point, WJLT produced cancer awareness interstitials on-air, held a public forum featuring a blue ribbon panel of experts, sponsored a community health fair, and worked with the Nursing Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin to incorporate teaching materials from A Lion in the House into their curriculum.
