In a city renowned for its love of the arts and its vibrant diversity, WTTW has produced more than 1,300 programs and stories featuring Chicago area musicians, painters, dancers and visual artists, including the Emmy-winning documentary Beauty Rises: Four Lives in the Arts. In 2008, with support from the Illinois Arts Council, WTTW made its extensive archive available and searchable via WTTW Arts Online. The station’s commitment continues with its Arts Across Illinois magazine series, where users and viewers can explore the Ballet Folklorico Huehuecoyotl, a Mexican dance troupe formed in Elgin, Illinois, or the Silk Road Theatre project, developed by Palestinian immigrants, or “Down on the Farm,” an exhibit showing the plight of Illinois’ African-American farmers. WTTW is committed to its mission to “engage and connect with the rich cultural and intellectual life of Chicago.”
